Mighty Milers is a free program that gets kids moving, builds their self-esteem, and helps them reach personal goals through fun running. Offered through New York Road Runners and founded in 2004, Mighty Milers is a school based program ideal for pre-K through 8th grade kids of all fitness levels and abilities. The program is flexible and easy to implement – it can be done before, after, or even during the school day as a part of P.E., recess, or a quick classroom break, all tailored for the unique needs and environment. Teachers track the kids' miles on an individual and classroom basis and give incentives provided by the program as goals are met.
Through Mighty Milers, staff and adult volunteers receive support in the form of resources, logistical training, motivational support and rewards of their own. Mighty Milers from the New York Road Runners reached more than 188K kids, who ran over a collective 5.8 million miles in the 2015-16 school year. New York Road Runners was founded in 1958 and has grown to become the world’s premier community running organization with a mission to help and inspire people through running.Learn More About Mighty Milers
